Idaho State defeated Sacramento State, 15-7, in the semifinals of the 2026 Big Sky Softball Tournament at Direct Communications Field at Miller Ranch Stadium, according to a May 5 announcement. The victory sends Idaho State to the Big Sky Championship game on Thursday.
The game was notable for Idaho State’s comeback from a four-run deficit and for setting new records. The Bengals hit seven home runs in the game, breaking both the Big Sky Tournament and program records for home runs in a single contest. This will be head coach Andrew Rich’s third appearance in a championship game.
Kira Day led the Bengals’ offense by hitting two home runs, including a walk-off solo shot in the sixth inning that ended the game. Day finished with three RBI and is now batting .344 on the season. Camryn McDonald contributed two home runs and five RBI, including a grand slam that put Idaho State ahead in the fourth inning. Alyssa Yee, Kennedy Dudley, and Sydney Groves also homered as part of an offensive display described as one of “the most explosive performances in program postseason history.”
Sacramento State started strong with back-to-back solo home runs but could not hold their lead as Idaho State responded each time. Kasey Aguinaga earned her fifteenth win of the season by pitching five innings in relief and striking out six batters.
With this win, Idaho State improves its overall record to 37-18 and remains undefeated when scoring ten or more runs this season. The team has now won four consecutive games heading into Thursday’s championship matchup. The opponent will be determined after Wednesday’s elimination bracket games conclude.
Looking ahead, Idaho State is set to compete for its next title on Thursday at noon at Miller Ranch Stadium.
