The Idaho State Bengals softball team will travel to California for a three-game series against the San Diego Toreros, beginning March 13. The games will be available for streaming on ESPN+ and live stats will be provided for all contests.
The matchup comes as Idaho State rides a six-game winning streak, their longest of the season. During this run, the Bengals have outscored opponents 58-13 and have not allowed any runs in the first two innings of each game. The team currently holds a 16-10 record after navigating a challenging non-conference schedule with trips to Fresno, El Paso, Eugene, and Las Vegas.
Key players for Idaho State include Ava Brown, who leads the team with 28 runs batted in (RBI) and nine home runs while batting .342. Kira Day has contributed eight home runs and 27 RBI in just 20 appearances, maintaining a .386 average. Sydney Groves has also emerged as an important hitter with nine home runs and 25 RBI. On the pitching side, Riley Wickum has become a reliable option with back-to-back complete games during the current winning streak.
Idaho State’s recent performance at the Orange and Black Classic and against Utah State resulted in a perfect 6-0 record. The team hit .384 collectively over those games, scoring 58 runs with seven home runs. Pitchers Marley Goluskin and Wickum both earned multiple wins during this stretch.
Looking ahead to the rest of the season, Idaho State returns most of its core lineup from last year’s campaign when they finished 37–17 overall and won the Big Sky regular-season title. Several players received preseason honors from the Big Sky Conference, including Brown being named Preseason Most Valuable Player.
San Diego enters the series at 11-12 overall under head coach MJ Knighten. The Toreros are hitting .282 as a team but have struggled on stolen base attempts and have issued nearly as many walks as strikeouts from their pitching staff. Historically, Idaho State and San Diego are tied at three wins each in their all-time meetings.
Following this series, Idaho State will return home for seven games against Utah State, Oregon State, and Seattle University.
