The Idaho State men’s tennis team was defeated 7–0 by UNLV in a non-conference match held Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas. The Bengals were unable to secure any points in either doubles or singles play.
“Our guys fought hard but UNLV was too good today,” said head coach Oliver Good. “We’ll get back to work next week and get ready for Utah State and BYU.”
UNLV gained an early advantage by winning the doubles point, taking victories on courts one and three. The No. 1 pair from Idaho State, Lewie Bouman and Sep de Visser, lost to Ilia Snitari and Arda Karakas with a score of 1–6. On court three, Tyler Dalos and Quentin Lamothe fell to Taiyo Hirano and Michael Kouame, 3–6. The second doubles match was left unfinished with Jack Calleri and Valentino De Pellegrin trailing Illia Maksymchuk and Marko Maksimovic, 2–5.
In singles competition, UNLV won all six matches in straight sets. Valentino De Pellegrin was defeated by Ilia Snitari (5–7, 4–6) at the top singles spot. Other losses included Sam Wensley against Marko Maksimovic (1–6, 4–6), Sep de Visser versus Illia Maksymchuk (1–6, 1–6), Hayden Ciguenza falling to Michael Kouame (3–6, 5–7), Lewie Bouman losing to Arda Karakas (2–6, 5–7), and Tyler Dalos being bested by Vitaliy Horovoy (3–6, 2–6).
Idaho State is scheduled to play its next matches against Utah State and BYU.
