The Idaho State men’s tennis team secured two 7–0 victories over Colorado Mesa University on Saturday at Reed Gym, marking the start of their home season in Pocatello. The Bengals swept both matches in the doubleheader, winning all singles and nearly every doubles match.
Head coach Oliver Good commented on his team’s performance: “The guys competed well and showed good energy throughout the day,” he said. Good also highlighted a notable moment for one player. “I’d like to mention Jack Calleri, who played his first dual match here at Reed after a tough couple of years with injury. It’s a great testament to his resolve and perseverance. We’ll now look to have some good practices ahead of a great test at UNLV next Friday.”
In the first match, Idaho State took control early by winning all three doubles courts, securing the opening point. The doubles pairings were Sep de Visser/Lewie Bouman, Valentino De Pellegrin/Luka Vujacic, and Quentin Lamothe/Tyler Dalos—all earning straight wins.
During singles play in the first match, the Bengals continued their momentum with straight-set victories across all six courts. Players Valentino De Pellegrin, Sam Wensley, Sep de Visser, Luka Vujacic, Lewie Bouman, and Quentin Lamothe each won their respective matches.
The second match followed a similar pattern. Idaho State claimed the doubles point with wins on courts one and three while narrowly dropping court two. In singles competition for the afternoon session, strong performances continued throughout the lineup. Hayden Ciguenza secured a three-set win and Jack Calleri earned his first career collegiate victory.
Overall, Idaho State went undefeated in singles over both matches and dropped only one doubles contest during the doubleheader. Calleri’s win was especially significant as it marked his first collegiate victory following an extended period out due to injury.
Looking ahead, Idaho State will continue its non-conference schedule on February 13th when they travel to Las Vegas to face UNLV.
