Idaho State softball won both games of a doubleheader against San Diego on March 13, improving its season record to 18-10. The Bengals took the opener 3-0 and secured a close 3-2 victory in the second game at Reggie Smith Softball Complex.
The sweep extends Idaho State’s winning streak to eight games. In the first game, Kasey Aguinaga pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out eight batters without issuing a walk. Sydney Groves hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning to secure the win. “Aguinaga was dominant from start to finish, striking out eight and issuing no walks across seven complete innings as Idaho State shut out San Diego in the opener,” according to the team report.
In Game 2, Kira Day led off with a solo home run and Marley Goluskin pitched all seven innings for Idaho State. The Bengals built a three-run lead before holding off a late rally by San Diego in the bottom of the seventh inning. Day finished with two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI. Groves added two hits and an RBI while Camryn McDonald contributed an RBI single.
The Bengals’ pitching staff limited San Diego to just two runs over fourteen innings across both games. Aguinaga improved her season record to 7-3 with six complete games and a 3.12 earned run average (ERA). Goluskin earned her fifth win of the year and now holds a 2.90 ERA.
Offensively, Groves leads Idaho State with ten home runs and twenty-eight RBIs this season while batting .378 through twenty-eight games. Day is batting .388 with nine home runs and twenty-eight RBIs in twenty-two games played.
Idaho State will play San Diego again on Saturday for the series finale at Reggie Smith Softball Complex.
