Idaho State women’s basketball began their Big Sky Conference schedule with a 61–46 win over Sacramento State at Hornet Pavilion in Sacramento, California. The Bengals now have an overall record of 8–4 and are 1–0 in conference play.
Head Coach Seton Sobolewski commented on the team’s strong start, saying, “We did a great job of starting the game off with great energy!” He also acknowledged contributions from the bench: “It was great to get some of our bench some minutes especially Tylie.”
The Bengals took control early, leading 20–9 after the first quarter following an 11–2 run that included baskets from Aspen Caldwell. In the second quarter, Idaho State went on a 12–0 run highlighted by a three-pointer from Maeva Gauffrenet and points from Caldwell and Tylie Jones. At halftime, Idaho State led 37–20.
After halftime, Idaho State maintained its advantage. Piper Carlson scored early in the third quarter and Tasia Jordan added another basket as the Bengals shot 50% for the period. They entered the fourth quarter ahead 51–32.
In the final period, Jordan and Kacey Spink helped secure Idaho State’s largest lead at 56–32. Sacramento State narrowed the gap late but could not overcome Idaho State’s lead.
Aspen Caldwell set a career-high with 14 points on efficient shooting. Kacey Spink contributed 11 points, eight rebounds, and four steals; she is now five steals away from tying Idaho State’s all-time record for career steals. Freshman Tylie Jones scored her first points as a Bengal by making her first three-pointer. The team forced 16 turnovers and limited Sacramento State to under 30% shooting.
Idaho State will continue their road trip this weekend against Portland State Vikings. The game is scheduled for Saturday at 3:00 PM Mountain time and will be available on ESPN+ and KISU.ORG.
