International Budget Award for 20th Consecutive Year

Award Honors District for Transparency & Excellence in the Budget Process

Boise, ID -- 01/12/2023 -- For the 20th consecutive year, Boise School District has received the Meritorious Budget Award as presented by the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO).

By regularly receiving the ASBO Meritorious Budget Award, the Boise School District continues to earn notable recognition for:

  • Skills in developing an effective budget presentation.
  • Compliance with clear budget presentation guidelines.
  • Commitment to the community through a reader-friendly budget document.
  • Adherence to nationally recognized budget presentation standards.

During the regular monthly Board meeting held on January 9, 2023, the Boise School Board recognized the District's administration for receiving this prestigious international budget award.

"The Meritorious Budget Award, as presented by the Association of School Business Officials International, is the gold standard for school budgets," said Boise School Board President Dave Wagers. "This award recognizes our school district for producing an annual budget that is accurate, detailed, clearly communicates our district goals and objectives and helps build credibility and trust within our community by exemplifying transparency and excellence in the school budget process."

The Boise School District has earned the Meritorious Budget Award every school year since 2003. The award recognizes the work of the District's administration, especially the District's Accounting Department and its team of professionals, who are committed each and every day to sound school financial management.

In 2019, the District's commitment to serving as responsible stewards of taxpayer funds helped Boise School District become the first and only Idaho public entity (public bond issuer) to earn a Aaa bond rating from Moody's Investor Service. The Aaa rating is the top credit rating available for a government entity.

The Meritorious Budget Award serves as yet another reminder that Boise School District is dedicated to building trust in our community as we prepare students for success in college, career and in life.
