Idaho State men’s basketball Head Coach Ryan Looney announced on May 18 that Tim Nolan will return to the Bengals’ coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Nolan previously worked with Idaho State as a graduate assistant from 2022 to 2024. He rejoins the program after spending time at Montana Western and with the Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets. Nolan replaces former assistant coach Devin Kastrup, who left earlier this spring to become head coach at Highland Community College in Freeport, Illinois.
“We are excited to welcome Tim Nolan back to Pocatello,” Looney said. “He is a bright young coach, and our players will love having him on staff.”
During his first stint with Idaho State, Nolan was involved in team operations, scouting reports, youth camp direction, and player development. His recent experience includes helping Montana Western achieve a 20-9 record during the 2025-26 season—their first 20-win season since 2018—and contributing to several notable victories and player honors.
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return to Idaho State, this time as an assistant coach,” Nolan said. “I can’t wait to get to work with Coach Looney, the new roster, and be back in the Poky community.”
Nolan’s background also includes working as an operations assistant for Greensboro Swarm during their first postseason appearance and serving as director of a youth basketball program. He began his career at Casper College before earning degrees from Wyoming and Idaho State.
